Sessions on Grief  – talk about loss (mourning group)

NL/ENG spoken

This March NEWConnective will start a new group for Sessions on Grief.

Death is a part of life, they say. But when it is part of your life, it can have a massive impact. Grief can be so overwhelming that it may seem like your entire world has collapsed and life is stripped of all shine. Your concentration can disappear, which influences your study results, the conversations you have, and relationships in general. At first, people are caring and involved, but after a while, it may seem as if no one holds space for your grief any longer. As if it were time to move on. Yet, grief is something that stays with you for all of your life, and that’s very normal.

“Give sorrow words; the grief that does not speak knits up the o-er wrought heart and bids it break.” Shakespeare (Macbeth)

This private group consists of 7 sessions. Every week, you will meet with the same group of students who have experienced a loss as well. By listening to each other’s stories you just might recognize the pain, the fathomless sadness, the anger, or fear. We hang out (online) together for a while, sharing ups & downs, supporting each other, and having fun (that too!).

Is this the place for me?

Grieving isn’t something you have to do on your own. Neither are you alone in it (although it might feel that way). These Sessions on Grief are open to any student, regardless of background or belief. Prior to the start, we hold a short pre-interview with each one of you to get to know you better. If it feels like a big step, previous groups have taught us that it brings students a lot of support. It’s the people who have been through the same that often give you the biggest sense of comfort.
